Twice a week, something large wakes up.
You will see it at the top of your HUD, under Dungeon Status: a name, and a single health bar. That bar is
not yours. It is shared by every crawler in the dungeon — one pool, one number, and it moves
whenever anyone lands a blow.
How you hurt it
You do not fight the boss directly. It is too big for that, and it is not waiting for you in particular.
You hurt it by doing what you were already doing:
- Win a fight. Every mob you put down comes off that health bar.
- Open a loot box. Everything you take out of a box costs it something.
- Play a quiz. Even a quiz you have already passed still counts — but only the first one you finish while that boss is alive. A careless run spends the chip, so play it when you are ready rather than learning the questions on it.
There is no button to press and no way to farm it. Losing a fight does nothing at all — if
a mob drives you back, the boss does not care and neither does the ledger. That fight simply does not count.
Nothing is taken from you for the loss; there is nothing to lose but the win you did not get.
What happens when it dies
When the bar empties, it is dead, and the System takes notice. Everyone who put anything into it
gets paid: a loot box, and a share of XP in proportion to how much of the kill was yours. Put in a
tenth of the damage, take a tenth of the reward — plus the small courtesy every contributor receives.
If the week runs out before the bar does, nothing bad happens. The thing withdraws,
unfinished, and the next one crawls up at the next spawn. There is no penalty, no rollover and no debt. You are never made to
face a wall you cannot get over; you simply get a fresh one a few days later.
What it will never do
It cannot take your XP. It cannot take a level, a floor, or an item. It does not eat your gear and it does
not set you back. One health bar, shared, and the only thing it is allowed to do is get shorter.
If anything about this ever costs you something you earned, that is a bug — report it and the dungeon will put
it back.
The fine print
- New boss twice a week — Wednesday 17:00 and Sunday 09:00 Mountain Time (23:00 Wednesday and 15:00 Sunday UTC). Your HUD counts down to the next one, so you never have to guess. The name advances through the roster each time, by rule rather than by choice, so it is the same for everyone.
- One boss at a time, for the whole dungeon. This is the point of it — a number the whole
site can watch move. - Once the bar is empty, that spawn is spent. Further hits land on a corpse and earn nothing,
so there is no benefit to arriving after the kill.
Somebody is going to land the last blow. It might as well be you.
