Rubella_CodswallupParticipantHello! Does anyone know how to decode the cipher? I don’t even know where to start other than throwing shit at the wall lol I’d rather at least kind of know what I’m doing
-
October 25, 2026 at 5:44 pm #1767
ElDragonParticipantThat first one is two words, five letters each. you have to figure out the cipher. The second word, the last two letters are the same, so think of it as like maybe free, but as I hit the send, I realized free, I was only four letters, but you get the picture, so you think of a five letter word that the last two letters are double. And that’s at any n is that same letter

ElDragonParticipantDo we have any idea if this is a two word phrase, or are they two random words
-

Rubella_CodswallupParticipantI’ve been trying to figure it out for at least three hours and I’ve got nothing. I even opened up different cipher solvers, a cyptogram solver, and I have no idea

Rubella_CodswallupParticipantYeah, it would be nice if it told you that you got anything right or not

RonJonJoviParticipantYeah, I do cipher stuff like this all the time, and with no clues or verifications (like the Spell Crawler/Wordle type thing), there is literally no way to solve this logically outside of just random guesses. They definitely need to fix this new puzzle, because I like the idea, but so far, the execution is way off.

CulveyParticipantThis is the ONLY feature I have been openly irritated by… i have tried well over 50 things. I have used 2 different AI to try solving it, tried a few specific cipher decoders. Unless the pass phrase is just random letter replacement and not real words then im at a complete loss
-
October 25, 2026 at 10:58 pm #1802
ElDragonParticipantI’m in the same boat probably tried. Seventy five different word combinations, three different AI. It looks like you have to have both words correct. At the same time, in order to get it to register anything. So if you got one word correct, you won’t know

I think it’s safe to say AI got us with this one, omg. My friend came up with a *brilliant* guess, wrong.
I’m over here like, numbering the alphabet and counting forwards and backwards and coming up with amazing results such as:
OYXN

….Mongo really is appalled ….
-
October 26, 2026 at 2:56 am #1834
Yeah, this one is frustrating. I’ve tried over 50 combinations and consulted friends and the interwebs. Every time I think it’s gotta be it, it isn’t lol with 0 context or clues, it’s just a guessing name. Nothing to “decipher” really, other than the last two letters being the same, which I think everyone gathered pretty quickly.
-
October 26, 2026 at 3:05 am #1836
RonJonJoviParticipantYeah, I may have karen’d out a bit and submitted a ticket to the System AI to tell them how impossible it was without some kind of guidance. I love these kinds of ciphers when they are like, a long quote, so you can kind of figure out common words and use the letters to fill in other space, and use logic, but two five letter words is insane in this context.
-
October 26, 2026 at 3:26 am #1837
RonJonJoviParticipantThe System AI replied agreeing that it’s essentially impossible, and that without both words, there is no feedback, and agreed that it was a design issue with the game. They said they’d send it up to the actual dungeon master to see if they’ll consider adding hints or tweaking the game. They said it’s “above their rank,” so it seems like this site does have a team of mods underneath the actual game master.

CrawlerDamienKeymasterGood morning Crawlers!
I’ve built some help into the Cipher. Hopefully it will assist in finding the answer. Remember that all words would have appeared in the book. I can offer a hint today if you guys need it, but I think with the new features you can figure it out. Second word should be easier than the first.
-
October 26, 2026 at 1:30 pm #1883

I love the added help! I’ve already burned all of my helps, though. I’m pretty sure I know what the second word is, but it’s that first word that’s just not making sense.

I FIGURED IT OUT! Me and my 5xp are feeling sassy now 🤣
-
-
October 26, 2026 at 7:43 pm #1947
RonJonJoviParticipantThe System AI got sassy with me after my post about yesterday being impossible, because I got today’s right with a bit of help from this forum, telling me it says a lot about what the word “impossible” means. Either way, the help it offers now definitely makes it at least a bit more doable, though it also helped they there were so many duplicate letters. The first one from yesterday, I still believe was near impossible.
-
October 26, 2026 at 8:02 pm #1948
CrawlerDamienKeymasterThe AI is meant to be a little sassy, much like the game’s AI. What do you expect, a friend? Just kidding.

October 26, 2026 at 8:07 pm #1949
DingwellParticipantSo I don’t know how everyone else is reading the books, but some on our team use Kindles, which I will come back to in a minute.
The second word for today seemed straightforward and it would give the last letter of the first word. One team member got a great hint on the first letter of the first word. Here’s where the Kindle part comes in. Someone with too much time on their hands searched every book through Kindle looking for the letter given and found the first word answer. That’s insane for sure, but worked for us today.
If you request more information on this, I will answer tomorrow how the Kindle search works when I can use a real example.

MicahParticipantI managed to get the cipher for yesterday, but do we know if those letters are applicable for the next day’s cipher? It looks different from what I’m seeing. For example, yesterday, Z was an A, and now today Z is an S
-
October 27, 2026 at 12:10 pm #2005
JackiepwnassisParticipantI recommend joining a Guild if you haven’t. They will be the biggest source of help when it comes to Cipher and Spellcrawler
-
October 27, 2026 at 12:22 pm #2008
I don’t know if there’s a legitimate rhyme or reason to the cipher.
-
October 27, 2026 at 1:06 pm #2012
-
October 27, 2026 at 1:26 pm #2017
DingwellParticipant@Micah – I’m assuming that like most ciphers (or cyphers, cryptogramS, or whatever you are used to), each puzzle is a different combination. Otherwise you could solve it once and for all time have the pattern.
@ElDragon – I respectfully disagree based on yesterday’s answer. For those who didn’t get it, yesterday’s answer was KHNUM LLAMA. It is from book 7, but the words do not appear back-to-back.
This is all about finding a pattern and breaking the “code”. Yesterday’s first word was unique to the books, though our group agreed on Llama pretty quickly and helped with part of the first word. Today’s repeats the last two letters in each word, which is a start but leaves a lot of possibilities. The hints will help and if you are part of a guild you can work together and have a few people get some clues and go from there.
-
October 27, 2026 at 2:50 pm #2024
CrawlerDamienKeymasterFor everyone who asked what the 25 October board was: BOPCA QUILL.
It stood all day. Nobody broke it — and I have to correct something I said at the time, which was that one crawler had solved it. That was wrong: the single solve on that cipher was a test account of mine, not a person. If you spent the day convinced someone else had cracked it and you were the only one who could not, that was my mistake, not your reading of the code.
So a board that nobody cracks does not just vanish now: the Cipher panel shows yesterday’s passphrase every day, for anyone who wants to see what they were up against.
The difficulty itself stays. You are meant to fight it — but you are entitled to know the answer afterwards.

RonJonJoviParticipantSo it’s two words, but not necessarily connected in any way? That’s madness.
-
October 27, 2026 at 3:53 pm #2037
RonJonJoviParticipantI used the hint to see what I had right, then a bit later, used the hint to give me one letter, and it decided to give me one of the letters I already had verified. SHENANIGANS.
-
October 27, 2026 at 4:06 pm #2041
CrawlerDamienKeymasterChecked the record rather than the vibes, and you have a legitimate grievance: your score reveal had already told you two positions were right, and the letter assist then spent 30 XP handing you back one of those same two. You paid for information you already had — that is a defect in how the assist picks its position, not a trick, and I am not going to defend it.
It is written down for the Dungeon Master; what he decides to do about the 30 XP is his call, not mine.
-
October 27, 2026 at 5:22 pm #2048
KrelliosParticipantYe, the one for today is rough. I’ll have to try again later or come back here for more information.
-
October 27, 2026 at 10:30 pm #2073
Rubella_CodswallupParticipantOkay, Z=S, C=R, and M=X. _R__S __X_S. I’m assuming that I is going to be an E since it makes the most sense with the X, _R_ES __XES… TRIES BOXES? I can only think boxes with the x
-
October 27, 2026 at 11:27 pm #2078
RonJonJoviParticipantThis post helped me get it. You were close enough that it just took a handful of brute force guesses to get it to fit.
-
-
October 27, 2026 at 10:31 pm #2074
Rubella_CodswallupParticipantMight not be an E though
-
October 27, 2026 at 10:34 pm #2075
Rubella_CodswallupParticipantAll the words with X in the middle and an S at the end have an E in between that I can find though so I think it’s safe to say I=E

KrelliosParticipantFor real, there gotta be an easier way.
-
October 28, 2026 at 2:18 am #2103
RonJonJoviParticipantThere really isn’t, without using clues. The only nudge they gave us is to work together in guilds, I guess to compare hint or something. If it was a long phrase, it would be logically decipherable, but two random five letter words is extremely difficult without using up all the hints and comparing notes with others who also used up their hints.
-

October 28, 2026 at 1:59 pm #2125
RANT:
I love the idea of a daily cipher, but the current version is frustrating and isn’t fun.
Why are we limited to two five-letter words…the same word length as Spell Crawler? And that game already feels like it isn’t randomizing its words at all, but that’s another discussion.
With two short words, no context clues, and a “shuffled alphabet” each day, there isn’t enough information to work toward a definite answer. The words don’t have to relate to each other, and invented book vocabulary makes the possibilities even harder to narrow down.
Today I tried multiple answers that fit every known constraint, spent XP on assists, and even brought in ChatGPT to help. Still no solution. We shouldn’t need AI agents to complete a daily fan-site puzzle…and cycling through valid guesses doesn’t feel like deciphering anything.
The assist pricing adds to the frustration: checking a guess costs the same 30 XP as revealing a letter, even though a check can leave you with nothing but more exclusions. And if the words aren’t consistently following the stated substitution pattern, revealing a letter doesn’t fix that. We need to be able to trust the rules we’re solving against.
A category, a short clue, a related word pair, or one free revealed letter would give us something to reason from. Longer phrases would also give the substitution pattern more room to provide useful clues.
I don’t need every puzzle to be easy, I just want enough information for solving it to feel like reasoning rather than guessing until something gets accepted.
My friends and I really love this site and I think we all want to enjoy this feature, but right now, it’s mostly making me want to skip it.

My wife and I used to send love letters to each other in a substitution cipher when we were dating. It’s easier if you have a key or phrase word that builds the cipher. And since this is just random substitution, and the words might be made up it’s just hours of trial and error.

What are some suggestions?
-
October 31, 2026 at 2:57 am #2294
elliaParticipantI think it would be fun if it was actual phrases from the books instead of two random words. It doesn’t always have to be two 5-letter words. It can be a 2+ word phrase that comes from the text, and I think that would be a lot more individually solvable because the length of the words and the number of words in the phrase will give context
